I am curious. As I get ready to move and am trying to empty my fridge and pantry, what items do you have to have on hand? Let's skip things like milk, bread, and eggs, those they're a given.
For me, olive oil, canola oil, kosher salt & pepper in the grinder, and canned tomatoes. Oh, and spaghetti sauce. Those are the things I seem to use almost every day.
Good question! I use a lot of buttermilk so I like to have some powdered on hand for times when I run out of the fresh. I also use a lot of vinegars in my cooking. Vanilla extract and chips-like chocolate, PB and butterscotch for making cookies and other goodies. Peanut Butter!!I know that is five but I am also going to throw in canned tomatoes. :-)
Olive oil, garlic, rice, pasta, and canned diced tomatoes. You seriously could make anything with those ingredients (of course, herbs and spices help!).
I can't pick just 5, but I'll try. Olive oil, garlic, citrus fruit or juices, vinegar (lots of varieties), canned tomatoes, onion, rice, pasta, and my herb garden
And kosher salt, a pepper grinder and low sodium chicken and veggie stock would be next.
I've been thinking about this all weekend, and here's my list (leaving out all the things you smart girls already put down): butter garlic (I love the big jar of prechopped garlic, it makes using it so easy) Cream of chicken soup (I use it in almost every casserole I make, I know, not popular) parmesan cheese sour cream
I hope you will share with us some of your favorite recipes, and take some away as well. I started this site mostly out of selfishness, I'm looking to expand my collection. However, I hope that everyone will benefit and please share with your friends!
To start, our week will look like:
Monday: Main Dish Day (sometimes we'll have a theme, and it will be posted.)
Wednesday: Healthy Living (think whole grains, low sugar, less fat, etc.)
Friday: Soups, Sides, and Salads
Please offer comments and suggestions, I want this to be helpful and useful for everyone!

Nope, see I couldn't do just 5.
